Awesome news beach lovers; Windsor Beach, which is located in Lake Havasu State Park, will be open this 4th of July weekend despite the state budget shortfall. The decision was reached on Tuesday afternoon, when Arizona State Park and Lake Havasu City reached an agreement allowing the
city to take over the park and boat launch ramp.
Visitation to Lake Havasu State Park has been up over 110% since 2008 and this 4th of July is expected to be even better than last. The Lake Havasu Marine Association is expecting over 1,000 boats to launch from Windsor Beach ramp this weekend alone, making it one of the busiest boating spots on the lake. And, best of all, entry to the park is free the entire weekend.
Keeping this beach open for the holiday weekend will also be a great opportunity for the city’s summertime economy. Windsor Beach is on the list to remain open because it has had the most visitors, with over 173,000 in the last year.
The only bad news I have come across is that the Windsor Beach campgrounds will not be open for the weekend of the 4th. The city just doesn’t have the manpower or the resources to operate the campgrounds and all that goes with it. Also, Cattail Cove will be closed since the city doesn’t have the manpower to operate this park either. The visitation to Cattail Cove was down 3.9% percent since last year.
The big question remaining is where will you spend your 4th of July this year? I hope to see you at Windsor Beach in Lake Havasu State Park.
